The Body Work Begins....

Many invitations to 'mutual balance' were offered up to Wit during the day. He declined all, often trotting away with a little obvious nervousness, not understanding the intentions behind the offerings.
Mid afternoon Venus followed by Sirius lay down to ground and meditate as horses often do.

Wit seemed to wander to this particular spot and went down hard as fast as though he'd been drugged.
Trinity and Jet 'bookend' the herd

Trinity works on solar plexus and root...biting at her flank. Jet's tail is raised indicating she is passing gas..a method of moving root energy

Jet works above Sirius
Trinity had barely touched Wit on his whithers (heart chakra) and I heard him squeal as though in pain....I was in the house shooting this series through the kitchen window....which was closed....so the squeal was loud! He made to jump up but Trinity is telling him to stay down by blocking his exit door quite firmly...

Wit is too intimidated to remain in such a vulnerable position and he leaps up and sideways...

He swings around and past Trinity as she steps toward Jet..

Jet and Trinity engage in heart chakra balancing and Wit quickly turns back to their vicinity

The two mares continue to balance while Wit remains calmly next to them..
This work can be done through one another and it isn't always necessary for the main target to be physically engaged in the work!
Wit turns his head toward the mares in a gesture which basically tests their 'new' attitude toward him. Feeling comforted Wit joins the herd in a closer more intimate manner...

The herd is 'tight' .... entrained to one another.

An Invitation To Balance

April 18, 2014

Herd turnout has been a very peaceful event. Wit is remembering his native language from his horse culture in leaps and bounds.
The dance which invites the new horse to balance through  touch is beginning to be choreographed.
Trinity and Wit finds themselves in the middle of the pasture while the other three mares are scattered around the fringe.
One horse, in this case Trinity, will initiate the dance while the others, Jet, Sirius and Venus will stay just far enough away that they can assist with the movement of energy while not intimidating Wit in any way.
Trinity begins the dance by moving closer to Wit....head stays down...she continuously grazes and her eyes stay soft and half closed.

As Trin moves in closer Wit's body is poised to leave to our left..

Wit relaxes when he senses she is not asking him to move, but rather to stay..

Trin moves around Wit and begins to guide him in a circle...from time to time she will 'look' at his hind legs without lifting her head from grazing and give just enough 'push' to have him turn on his forehand.
Wit moves his head to the inside as Trin moves hers to the outside..she is inviting rather than chastising for this movement that had been reprimanded in earlier encounters.

Wit leans his body in...Trin leans hers out..again an invitation

All the while the mares are redirecting energy through their bodies in a balancing, entraining Wit's energy deeper into the herd and the herd's energy deeper in to Wit.

Wit moves slowly through Trin's energy taking what he needs as he goes.
Their heads remain down at all times...chewing....moving energy to ground.

Wit moves closer, weaving through the energy

Trin's eyes have remained soft, half closed, sometimes appearing like small slits...she is working, working, working..

Wit's eyes have half closed to 'slits' ... and he moves to Trin's side

Their heads move toward each other...eyes still soft, bodies 'slack' and 'off the muscle'

Wit moves to the outside and drops to the ground
He is in a most vulnerable position...grounding his energy into Mother Earth...and Trinity continues on..eating, chewing, moving energy to ground.

The dance complete, for now, Wit leaves..

Jet immediately joins Trinity and balances heart energy...

The eagles fly in and we are complete.

Each day Wit's personality exposes more and more of itself. He is kind, sweet and intelligent. Last evening at turn in time he stood back to allow the younger girls a chance to come to the gate and they quietly deferred to him .... he looked as though he was saying 'are you sure?' and then came to the gate. Quietly, gently, calmly...absolutely no apprehension or excitement when left in his stall.
For me, this is one of the most satisfying transformations to witness.

It would be easy to interfere and speed the process. I do that for other horse owners often! You can integrate a herd swiftly!
To watch how they do it without much human interference is a greater learning experience in my mind anyway.
Had they been turned out 24/7 the process would have been completed long ago. The key is that the horses must have 'enough' to get the job done.
Enough room to move away from one another.
Enough feed.
Enough water...and so on.
Something of great importance and noteworthy is that there are no marks on these horses resulting from bites or kicks.

That is very telling.

Today is the 19th and I fully expect to see some physical body work begin today...and I'll have the camera ready!

The Holiday is Over....

We're back from one week away.
The mares should be coming out of their heat season and today will be a little like show and tell around the farm. I am hoping to get the horses back out on grass...so fingers crossed...all goes well.
Photos and diary entries to follow!

Meanwhile....here is a photo of a sea turtle, just landed on the beach on Maui...there were a great number of them feeding along the rocks and from time to time they'd come in to rest.
Magnificent!

Now where were we?

I debated on whether to turn the horses out in small groups or simply all at once in the big field as I'd been doing just prior to leaving for Hawaii. Intuition said to turn them all out 'as one' and I did so.

The mares wandered quietly to the farthest corner of the field and grazed 'gently'. There is much you can tell about how a horse is feeling by the way they tear and chew grass. If they 'rip rip rip and chew' it usually says that they are somewhat anxious about their environment, have been penned up too much for too long or are plain and simply hungry! Even though the horses have been confined to their stalls and walkouts they led out to pasture as though they'd been out the day before. When they dropped their heads to graze it was as I mentioned earlier...quiet and methodical.

Wit chose to stay up on the hill. He too ate gently, enjoying the early morning sun and his freedom.

From time to time the fillies would trot off, gallop a turn around the field but Wit remained quietly grazing on his hill.

Venus and Sirius took a lap of the field together while the others continued to graze.

This shows me that the horses are independent  and are not fearful in their environment.

Time passes, all is still quiet. Wit is off to the right of these frames in a bit of a world of his own.

Wit has turned his back on the mares...a sign he is comfortable and not needing to be tight into the herd energy for support. That is about to change....

In the east pasture a pair of geese who'd also been grazing notice my camera focus and sound the alarm... They begin their launch into flight...

...and so did Witty! Straight to the mares! alarming them out of their grazing reverie. The mares are quite used to the comings and goings of the geese and know that what alarms the geese doesn't usually involve them. Trinity watches the geese, notes there is nothing for them to be worried about and so she along with Jet admonish Wit. He is pushed to the fence line and made to hold that position for a time. Why you might ask? Because the fences represent the areas where the real boogie men live. That is where cougars and other predators might be crouching in wait.

Wit is cut back and forth with just enough pressure to place him on the fence, not over it. Such a fine balancing act these mares are performing!

When Wit accepts his position as 'wolf bait'....along with Venus who had been wolf bait til Wit's arrival, the mares return to grazing as though nothing happened...and Wit is allowed to be one of the herd.

I couldn't help notice this cloud formation which resembles an eagle landing in the tree tops which drew my eye to the 'landing point' where indeed the resident eagle pair are perched...watching.

In the above photo Wit is walking away from the mares and much to my surprise Jet herds him back to the group!

The next step in this journey will begin to take place when the mares are ready to do up close and personal body work with Wit.
Three of the four mares are in season, but you may notice (I know I have) that the behavior of the mares is much more turned down from their last season. The reasons for this are many but the main reason is that when Wit arrived he had a noticeable restriction in flow of energy through gonad and root...this speaks DIRECTLY to the mares' reproductive systems and MAGNIFIES the pain associated with heat seasons...cramps and the like. This is why the mares appeared to dislike Wit.
It wasn't Wit they disliked....but rather the way his energy made their energy feel.
Now that flow is returning to a balanced state the flare ups will be few and far between...and eventually nonexistent!

I look forward to sharing the next leg of this journey...the 'bodywork' will be amazing to witness and I for one cannot wait to see it commence.
The mares will know when it is time.
